<![CDATA[All good things come to an end...]]>Mon, 20 Dec 2010 14:54:42 -0500http://coachwec.com/2/post/2010/12/all-good-things-come-to-an-end.htmlWhat a year it has been. It was an absolute thrill to make it to the State Final. While the one-point loss was disappointing, we played an epic game as heavy underdogs to a state powerhouse. And we played right to the end. It certainly was a pleasure coaching this team and working with this coaching staff. I am most grateful for the overwhelming support we received from the fans, McD faculty and staff, alumni, and community. Your support, especially in the wake of the loss, has moved me and is much appreciated. I will never forget this special group of seniors and look forward to hearing about your future successes whether football-related or not. I think I speak for the rest of the coaching staff in saying to the underclassmen that I really look forward to working with you in continuing McD success. I am proud of the way many of you stepped up this year and set an example for our even younger future Crusaders!

Sincerely,

Coach Wec

<![CDATA[Another Crusader Record on the Books...]]>Sat, 20 Nov 2010 10:40:01 -0500http://coachwec.com/2/post/2010/11/another-crusader-record-on-the-books.htmlLast night's District 3 AAA Quarterfinal victory over Hershey 63-0 marked the most points ever scored in McD playoff history. I was pleased with our efforts on both sides of the ball. With the mercy rule in place for the 2nd half, our reserves took the field for the second week in a row and did a nice job with Alec Werner at QB, some nice gains by Ben Mosey, and scoring runs by Darnell Holland and Jayraun Smith.

We play Lampeter Strasburg at their home field next Friday night in District Semifinal action. Hope you can make the drive to Lancaster to support the Crusaders. Click here for directions.

<![CDATA[Susq. Twp post game thoughts and answer to previous comment/question...]]>Mon, 27 Sep 2010 17:06:40 -0500http://coachwec.com/2/post/2010/09/susq-twp-post-game-thoughts-and-answer-to-previous-commentquestion.htmlIn a previous comment, the following question was asked: Why run 3 straight draw plays to poteat under 4 mins on the opposing teams 40?

Answer: We didn't call any draw plays all game long. The play is called Wedge Option out of the Shotgun where the QB reads the defensive end and has the option to give the ball to Poteat, keep it himself, or pitch to the other TB who was Darnell Holland at the time. It's the same play that Poteat had a long td run in the 3rd qtr.

We have a very young offensive line that is struggling to pass protect, young receivers still learning the nuances of running routes. It is a play our linemen have confidence in, and it is also the same play that took us to their 40 when we started inside our own 30.

The first time we ran it on 1st down, Matt made the correct read and gave the ball to Jameel, and unfortunately tripped over Matt or the play would have been a td. The players told me that even the official told them in the huddle that it would have been a td; there was nobody there. So the very next play, the players wanted to run the same thing because it was open. Our OT missed his block and it blew the play up.

On the 3rd play, we thought they would adjust and we'd get the pitch, but Matt read it as a give to Jameel. On 4th and 3, we had a very good play called to the back side of the trips which was WIDE open for a 1st down, Matt threw a perfect pass, but the ball was dropped.

This sometimes happens at this time of the season when you have a lot of young players. Had we gotten the 1st down, we would have been inside the 30, we would have taken more time off the clock that ST wouldn't have had much time on the clock to go down and kick a fg to win.

I am proud of how hard our kids fought back and I feel that when we cut down on all our mental mistakes, we will be a very good football team.

Thank You for your question. I am happy to explain it to you.
